Six years ago, I set out on a quest to document my journey while building Shero Comics into an international multimedia company via a worldwide comic con tour — while simultaneously telling the untold story of Black women in comics that came before me.
I didn’t have much money — I never have much money when it comes to these things — and when an investor dropped out last minute, I took out a small loan to cover the second stop of the tour to Seoul, Korea. I felt that this was a story that needed to be told…HAD to be told, and so the cameras have been rolling ever since.
Winning the “SheStories” grant from “The Big We” — powered my Melinda French Gates’ Pivotal Ventures — to help me finish this “The Shero Universe” docuseries is not only a major accomplishment, but it’s sooo validating. And I can’t wait to show you how dope us Geeky Black Girls are and have always been…on the big screen, of course!
